RI Bulldogs Boys At-Home Drills – Offense

RI Bulldogs Boys OFFENSE At-Home Work Packet

We are introducing our at-home training for all Bulldogs players over the year with the interest of giving each and every player tools, tips and drills devised by our high-level coaching staff to help everyone work to improve their games outside of practice time.

This routine is to give our offensive players the opportunity to work on a couple of drills weekly to help improve their games. These sets of drills are to be completed 3-4 times per week in conjunction with our Wall-Ball Routine, but is certainly not limited to only that!

*Important! Where your helmet and gloves when doing these drills – always practice how you play!

Reference our demo video below to make sure you are completing these drills with the proper form and fundamentals!

Offensive Drill #1 – Paint the Pipe Drill

The first drill is called “Paint the Pipe Shooting” – a drill aimed to enhance shooting with proper form and fundamentals while building wrist strength and control to direct the ball to the spot we are aiming to.

Routine:

  • One-Hand Right – 20 Reps
  • Two-Hand Right – 20 Reps
  • One-Hand Left – 20 Reps
  • Two-Hand Left – 20 Reps

Points of Emphasis!

  • Set-up: Make sure we are set up between the 5-and-5 (5 yards up from Goal Line Extended, 5 yards wide of the net) and 7-and-7.
  • AIM FOR THE PIPE! The goal of this drill is to get all of our momentum working together and finishing towards the same spot on the net.
  • Load weight into your back leg and transfer it through your front leg while shooting.
  • Keep a strong wrist; keep the butt-end of your stick pointed towards the net at the goal line. Do NOT let the butt end point to the sky or directly to the ground when shooting.
  • Emphasize the “Snap” of your wrist when shooting. Snapping your wrist helps direct the ball out of your stick towards where you are aiming. Almost like flicking your wrist when shooting a basketball.
  • Make sure you are following through and your stick is finishing in your opposite pocket.
  • ALWAYS start with your one-handed shots, your two-handed shots will feel a lot smoother after!

Offensive Drill #2 – On-the-run Shooting Progression

The next drill is called “On-the-run Shooting Progression” – a drill aimed to enhance shooting with proper form and fundamentals for our on-the-run shots – working to get our momentum towards the net while moving.

Routine:

  • Progression #1: Right-Hand Stationary – 15 Reps
  • Progression #2: Right-Hand Walking – 10 Reps
  • Progression #3: Right-Hand Jogging/Sprinting – 10 Reps
  • Progression #1: Left-Hand Stationary – 15 Reps
  • Progression #2: Left-Hand Walking – 10 Reps
  • Progression #3: Left-Hand Jogging/Sprinting – 10 Reps

Points of Emphasis!

  • Set-up: Make sure your feet are staggered on an angle towards the net in the direction we are running. Outside foot stationed slightly in front of our inside foot. Feet a little wider than shoulder-width apart.
  • Load weight into your back leg (outside leg) while rotating your outside hip back. Hips should build tension to operate as a “sling-shot” when releasing the ball towards the net.
  • Reach hands back behind the ear with your butt-end pointed towards the net at the goal line.
  • Follow through with the outside hip and outside shoulder finishing towards the net. Make sure your stick is following through and “scraping the ground” towards your opposite pocket.
  • Form is IMPERATIVE here! We would prefer that this drill is done slower with proper form as opposed to faster with improper form.
  • Note that this progression can be done anywhere on the field. If you want to work on alley shots, sweep shots, up-the-hash shots, etc. You can follow the same progression in those spots on the field as well!

Offensive Drill #3 – Loaded Step-Down Shooting Drill

The next drill is called “Loaded Step-Down Shooting” – a drill aimed to enhance the weight transfer aspect of our step-down shots and getting as much speed and power on our shots as possible.

Routine:

  • Right-Hand Loaded Shots – 20 Reps
  • Left-Hand Loaded Shots – 20 Reps

Points of Emphasis!

  • Set-up: Make sure your front foot is pointed towards the net when you step to shoot.
  • Over-emphasize the weight transfer into your back leg, hold it there for a second, then unleash all of the power through your front foot towards the net.
  • Make sure your hands are in the proper shooting position, stick behind your ear, butt-end pointed towards the net and at the goal line.
  • Make sure we are following through with our back hip and back shoulder towards the net, with our stick finishing to our opposite pocket.
